Call Name "Skip"
Dec 26 1999 - Sept 11 2012

.It is with a heavy heart that I let you know of Skips passing.  He has
been sick the last couple of months and recently diagnosed with
prostate cancer.  Skip has been the most perfect boy that we could
have ever hoped for.  He has been a wonderful family member and
father/grandfather.

Amanda and I made the LONG trip to Hico, TX-with a stop off at our
friends Jeannie in Weatherford-to get Skip.  He fit in immediately to
our small family.  He has a wonderful personality that he tended to
pass on to his offspring.  On our trip home Amanda wanted to walk Skip
and Red....i said OK, but you can't let go of him for any reason.  We
walked dogs and was headed back to the van. Red tripped Amanda, she
fell on Skip (Amanda was 11).  Red dragged the three of them for about
10 ft.  Amanda gets off of Skip, bloody knees. bloody hands' saying "I
didn't let go mom."  And Skip, just looked at Amanda like "are you OK
and can you get off of me now?" such a good boy.

I don't believe Skip had a mean bone in his body.  He was a perfect
male dog.  Another male would show him attitude and he would just walk
away, confident and majestic.  He never started a squabble, he was
more of the "don't be an idiot" and walk away type dog.  He did really
like to back talk to Amanda.  They both wanted the last word but Skip
usually got it.  He would bark, Amanda would tell him to be quiet, she
would turn her back he would let out one loud "WOOF", she would turn
around and say "SKIP!!" he would wag his nubbin and as soon as she
turned around woof again.  I would giggle...Amanda didn't find the
humor in it like I did.  :-)  Ahh, Skippy.

Thank you Terry, for entrusting Skip to us.  He has been the most
wonderful boy and we love him dearly.  Thank you to all who has his
pups, and the love you show them.  I miss you so Skip, I will see you
on the otherside.

Skip was purchased in November 2002 from Terry Martin in Hico, Texas.  I feel very fortunate to have been able to first, meet Terry, secondly have Red at her place to be bred by Skip and lastly have Skip part of our family.  We brought Skip home a mere month shy of his third birthday.

Skip has been with us a full year now and has adjusted quite nicely to living in the house and sleeping on the couch with the kid.  He has an amazing personality.  He loves the attention he gets and has a strong desire to be friends with the cats, who don’t always wish to be friends.

We work Skip regularly on the sheep.  He has learned to pace himself.  He stays off naturally but has learned where he needs to be to move each type of livestock.  When working lambs he will stay back 15-30 feet without any pressure from the handler.  He has learned not to push the stock passed the handler.  His down has become a lot better.  And now Amanda even has a call off with him.

Amanda and Skip have been doing a lot of work together and he is quickly becoming "her dog."  Amanda has plans to get Skip in the breed ring.  Structure wise he is VERY sound.  At Nationals, even the breed people like the looks of him.  He is very solid.  Like a brick house.  I don’t think he has an ounce of fat on him.  Amanda is hoping to have him ready to show in the breed ring and the trial arena for the 2004 Nationals in CA.   We will have to wait and see how ready the duo is in May.  They start an obedience class in January, which should help with the bond.
